Matt and Gavin emphasised the importance of understanding cyber risks, assessing threats and vulnerabilities, and implementing appropriate controls to mitigate risks.

Recent cyber breaches like the Ticketmaster incident were highlighted, along with the rise of third-party attacks exploiting trust within supplier ecosystems.

Cyber threats, including phishing attacks, were identified as major risks to organisations, emphasising the need for cyber security awareness and education among employees. Building a culture of cyber awareness and documenting cyber risks through an information security management system (ISMS) were recommended strategies to improve cyber competency.

The conversation also touched on ISO certification, particularly ISO 27001, discussing its benefits in terms of credibility and competitiveness for organisations.
